Figure out your one thing, your single message for your product

When we talk about making money online, it’s always by selling something to people online.

Duh, right?

You might be thinking it’s hard to sell things online and you’d be right.

However, the reason it’s hard might not be what you’re thinking

What makes selling online so hard?

Selling is definitely not something that we typically think is easy to do.

However, we do it all the time in all aspects of our lives.

Most us don’t realize we do though.

As a kid, you’ll sell your mother on giving you ice cream.

As a teenager, you’ll sell yourself to that guy or girl to go to the prom or other dates.

As an adult, you’ll sell yourself for the job.

What’s the problem with selling if we do it all the time then?

Well, first of all, I’m sure you know that we actually don’t think it’s selling in those situations, but believe me, it really is.

I can’t say it’s this for everyone, but the most common thing that makes us thing selling is hard is that we hate rejection.

When we think about our teenage years, we learned how painful rejection was when we asked for things we didn’t get.

As adults, we simply want to avoid that at all costs!

What happens when we take on a selling role is we think it’s the best thing in the world and then we start talking to people about the product and how amazing it is… then we get shot down.

The only ones that don’t are our friends and family.

But that doesn’t last if we don’t get results quickly (and most of us don’t)

What’s the solution to rejection?

This is why I talk about the one thing.

Obviously, it’s not as simple as that to fix the rejection issue, but it’s a big part of it.

There are really only 2 things you can do to deal with the fear of rejection.

One is to simply face it and go for it letting it happen and learn to not be affected by it.

If you can do that, all the power to you.

I prefer being a little strategic about it.

The second thing you can do is change how you sell.

Instead of reaching out to people to find out if they have any interest, you let them reach out to you when they are interested.

That’s called attraction marketing.

Your one thing and Attraction Marketing

With Attraction Marketing, your goal is to create content that will attract your ideal client.

There is a lot more to it that I won’t get into here but when your message is clear, things become way easier.

For your message to be clear, you need to define your one thing.

Your one thing, or your single message for your product is something you can say that identified what your product gives your ideal client.

Don’t talk about your product

The biggest problem people have to get over is to understand that your message should never be your product.

We see all kinds of companies advertising their products and we assume that’s what we must do to.

However, that doesn’t work in the social media and online world.

This is why we talk about what results your client will get by investing in your product.

What exactly is the “One thing”?

To put it simply, the “one thing” is what your ideal client wants and what they do not want.

The easiest way to understand it is to fill in this phrase:

How to ____________ without _____________

Ask yourself what your client wants and what they do not want have to do to get that.

For example, if you are selling a weight loss supplement, your one thing could be:

  • How to loose 10 lbs in a week without exercising or dieting.
  • How to get them to turn their heads when you walk by without changing your diet or exercise routine
  • How to loose those last few pounds without cutting out your favorite foods.

The “One Thing” is what you’ll then use to create your content and your messages.

It helps to clarify your direction and what to post.

Conclusion

We all struggle with rejection and deciding to sell something online can make it all to real.

By learning about the one thing and having a single message for your product, it becomes possible to almost eliminate rejection.

Learn to use attraction marketing and personal branding in your messages and you’ll get those sales.
