How to create an Alexa Skill podcast?

If you’re like me and you’ve been creating content for a while, you probably have been thinking about podcasting.

I’ve just recently gotten myself an Amazon Echo Dot and love using it.

My wife even wanted her own, so now we have two!

Audio is the new media.

Everything is becoming audio now.

They say it’s because of all the voice controlled devices like Google home, Amazon Alexa and Apple Siri.

Because those devices are becoming so good at recognizing spoken words, more people are buying them and using them.

What does that mean for you?

That means that more people will be searching for audio content.

This is where your content as a podcast comes in.

We’ll talk about a podcast on iTunes, Spotify, Google Play or Soundcloud in another post but Alexa has podcasts too and they are called Skills.

What do you need to create an Alexa Skill?

To create your very own Alexa Skill, you just need a few things.

  1. You’ll need to create content at least once a week – I create some every weekday.
  2. You’ll need a place to host your content that supports an RSS feed – I host it on Click eCourse web site
  3. You’ll need an Amazon account
  4. You’ll need to create the skill in Amazon Alexa developer console

That’s pretty much it.

Of course, after you’ve created the skill in the developer console, you’ll need to submit it and it has to be approved as well.

Watch the video for a walk though of this process.
