What is Reels? Using Reels and Why do you care?
Maybe you heard about Reels, maybe not, but what is reels you ask?
How about using it? Where do you find it?
Do you need to download a new app?
Finally, why do you even care about Reels?
What is Reels?
If you haven’t heard, Reels is a new feature integrated into Instagram from Facebook.
It allows you to create short videos (15 seconds long) that live in your profile.
You can do things like add music and disappearing text to your videos too.
The great thing is you don’t need to download any new apps, it’s integrated into Instagram.
It’s awfully familiar, isn’t it?
Wait a second, I know an app that allows me to do that.
That app lets me upload 60 second videos and have disappearing stickers too.
If you don’t know, I’m talking about TikTok.
The app that Donald Trump has been hinting will be banned in the US.
Not sure if that will ever happen but Facebook is certainly going to want to monopolize on that.
Why should you care about Reels anyway?
Well, for one thing, it’s a new feature of a very popular app.
If you’ve been paying any attention to social media influencers or to Garry Vee, you know that one of the most valuable things in marketing is eyeballs.
Of course, if you’re not trying to build a business online, market a product or sell a course, you can stop reading right now.
However, if you are, then the best place to get fresh eyeballs, or prospects on social media is in new apps or new features.
Anyone who uses a new feature in an existing app will be rewarded by the social media platform with engagement, views, shares and follows.
Plus, you just might be the next rock star in this case.
Where is Reels and how to use it
I’m not going to go too much into details here, please watch the video to learn how to use the app and where to find the feature.
Basically, you go into Instagram app on your phone and will find new Reels videos in the discover section (the search icon)
Note that it’s not available from your web browser (as of today) but it may become available in future.
To create a new Reels video, you go to your camera icon just like you would to create a new story.
Then you’ll notice at bottom a REELS tab
You just select REELS and record pretty much the same as a story.
More details in the video but you can add disappearing text, music and use a timer. You can also upload a video to Reels.
Although Reels might feel like just a new platform or feature to add to the already too many places to post on social media, I’d highly recommend you use it.
It just might be a TikTok killer for the USA with all the FUD going on around TikTok.
If you produce just a few pieces of content, you just might grow your audience really fast.
Please share as all your marketer friends want to know about Reels too.
